About the event
Harsh Collective is pleased to present the launch party and New York debut of Openended’s newest collection drop, including an innovative collaboration with designer Grace Gui. The opening event, which will also host Absinthe tasting by Bedroom 6, will take place on April 26th, from 8:30 pm to 11:00 pm at 133 Eldridge St, New York, NY 10002.
The gallery pop-up at Harsh Collective will showcase nine sculptural pieces from Openended, an art and design studio created by Arthur Modine and Vineta Rendler. These nine 100% recyclable and biodegradable home and fashion accessories are created through 3D printing using PLA and bioplastic made from corn starch, sugarcane, and cassava, with designs inspired by natural forms. Openended's pieces embody a deep appreciation for natural beauty, and an unwavering commitment to sustainable design.
The evening will also unveil Openended’s debut collaboration with Grace Gui (created by Grace Wang). The unique felting technique Wang uses to create her fiber-linework is patented, and all items are knit and/or felted by hand, making each piece truly one of a kind.
The launch party will grant ticket holders exclusive access to try on and purchase products from Openended and Grace Gui before the limited-supply pop-up is open to the public on April 27th and 28th. Tickets for the event are limited and can be purchased on the Harsh Collective website.
About Openended
Openended is a collaboration between fine artist Vineta Rendler and architectural designer Arthur Modine, celebrating nature's beauty through art and design. Rooted in the philosophy that all beautiful things stem from nature, Openended draws inspiration from the Earth's sentient, living system and its deliberate design ethos. Through their work, Rendler and Modine strive to bridge the gap between individual expression and environmental consciousness, reinforcing our connection to the world's intricate beauty.
Their process begins with the study of organic forms, delving into the aesthetic principles of biomorphic structures. This exploration informs their design, which is then brought to life through creative experimentation. Crafted in their Los Angeles studio, each piece is 3D printed using 100% biodegradable polymer, meticulously sanded by hand, and finished with an organic varnish, ensuring they return to the Earth, contributing to the bio-life that inspired them.
About Grace Gui
Grace Gui is a Brooklyn farm-to-fashion-based knitwear project by Grace Wang. Grace Gui combines the Americana influences in her life that had previously stunted her self-acceptance, and combines them with her introspective resurgence of love for herself and her Chinese background. She solely sources from female independent farmers and artisans along with raising her own silkworms and angora rabbit in her Bushwick studio.
